Limited Edition- Waterfowl Festival 55th Anniversary Calls
The great traditions of the Waterfowl Festival and the World Waterfowl Calling Championships need our support, every year. They are not only great events to see, attend, and participate in, but they also contribute, financially, to many other conservation organizations, events, projects and scholarships in our region and across the country.
55 years ago, the first Waterfowl Festival was held in Easton Maryland. I was 9 years old and I have attended every minute of every Festival since the very first one. It is my personal “New Year Celebration” and the greatest event of my year.
In 1976 the Waterfowl Festival held its first calling competitions, thanks to the efforts of Easton’s own Suzie Carpenter.
I made my first foray into the calling competition in 1981, having never even been to a calling contest. I placed 4th in the World’s Championship Goose Calling Contest, and was gut-hooked!
In 1985 I was Blessed to win the contest with a call that I designed and made, The Eastern Shoreman. Named for all who went before me in the “Eastern Shore Lifestyle”. Dr. Harry Walsh & Mr. Bill Perry, the Festival’s founders were 2 such people who inspired that name.
In 1986, I was fortunate enough to win the World’s Championship again.
In 1986 I also proposed & made the first-ever Waterfowl Festival Anniversary Call in celebration of the 15th Festival and as a fundraising tool for the Festival. A portion of the proceeds of each call was donated directly to the Festival. The price of each call was $150.00. (15 years X $10.00 a year)
I have made Waterfowl Festival Anniversary Calls, almost every five years since.
In 2021, I made the ‘50thWaterfowl Festival Anniversary’- Eastern Shoreman goose calls and they sold out in just a few hours. I made 50 Festival supporters happy that day, however just as many Festival supporters and collectors were disappointed due to the severely limited availability of those special calls. They were $500.00 each. (50 years x $10.00 a year)
This year we want to make more people happy! With respect to the 55thAnniversary, we will make 110 hand-signed and individually numbered calls to support the Waterfowl Festival’s World Waterfowl Calling Championships. The price of each call is $550.00. (55 years X$10 a year)
This is the First Year that the Call will be engraved with BOTH the 55thWaterfowl Festival logo AND the World Waterfowl Calling Championships Logo. One on each side of the mouthpiece.
All of the Calls are made by me and my son, Ian Mann, by hand, from a special batch of Curly & Fiddleback Maple. My Father and I located and hand-selected the wood back in 1989. So, we squirreled some of it away, for …NOW! My father, Bill Mann, brother Joseph, and now my son Ian have all helped me make this batch of maple into Eastern Shoreman calls, & now the Waterfowl Festival 55thAnniversary Calls. That’s 3 Generations of my family participating in this effort!
SPECIAL- BONUS BUY- CALL #1 RAFFLE – Call #1, of each of the previous Waterfowl Festival Anniversary Releases, was Auctioned during the Preview Night Auction. Only one call can be the first of the series, and only one will ever carry the moniker of “#1 of 110” Waterfowl Festival 55thAnniversary Calls.
-This year, we are going to have some fun while we raise some money for the World’s Waterfowl Calling Championships. For the first time, Call #1 will be raffled, and only the buyers of the 55th Anniversary Calls will be eligible to buy those chances.
-Each buyer of a Waterfowl Festival 55thAnniversary Call will have the opportunity to buy 2 Chances, for the elusive Call #1, with each call they order. Chances are $55 each. There will be 218 chances to win Call #1. (110 calls in total, minus call #1=109 calls. 2 chances each call x 109=218 chances). BTW- This means that if you are drawn for #1, you got it for only $110.00. Kind of a No-Brainer to me!
-If buyers choose not to purchase any or either of their 2 chances, those chances will be made available to the other buyers again, and again, until all of the chances are sold within the call buyer group.
IF YOU WANT MORE THAN 2 CHANCES AT CALL #1, PLEASE TELL US THAT IN THE CUSTOMER NOTES OF YOUR ORDER. WE WILL CONTACT YOU IF ADDITIONAL CHANCES BECOME AVAILABLE.
-Upon the sale of call #110 and all of the chances for Call #1, the World Waterfowl Calling Championships Prize Money account will have gained over $20,000.00 from this effort. Some funds will go to this year’s prize package and some to “seed money” for future contests.
The Drawing for Call #1 will happen when all of the chances are sold, and all proper accounting has been done. In other words, as soon as possible after sales are completed.
Again-The great traditions of the Waterfowl Festival and the World Waterfowl Calling Championships need our support, every year. They are not only great events to see, attend, and participate in, they also contribute to many conservation organizations, events and projects in our region and across the country.
Thank You for Your Support!
WE ARE DOING OUR LEVEL-BEST TO HAVE THESE CALLS READY TO DELIVER BY THE FESTIVAL WEEKEND. BECAUSE THEY ARE HAND MADE, AND WE WILL NOT COMPROMISE OUR STANDARDS, SOME OF THE CALLS MAY NOT BE READY BY THEN. BARRING A MEDICAL EMERGENCY, THEY WILL BE IN EVERY BUYERS HANDS BEFORE CHRISTMAS.
